Computer repair in Gray, Maine
House calls for laptops, desktops, printers, phones and tablets. (207) 804-5719, seven days a week.
What usually brings people in
- Slow, or full of junk. Startup apps, browser toolbars, a drive that is nearly full, or a spinning disk in a machine that should have had an SSD years ago.
- Scam pop-ups and "support" calls. A screen full of warnings and a number to call is a scam, always. We clean the machine, check what was changed, and tell you what to do if it happens again.
- Won't start. Dead drive, corrupt Windows, failed update, or a power supply that finally quit. We diagnose before quoting parts.
- Wi-Fi that does not reach. Usually the router is in the worst room in the house. Sometimes it is a 12-year-old access point. Both are fixable without buying a mesh kit blindly.
- Printers. The least loved hardware in Maine, and rarely the printer's fault.
- New computer setup and old data moved over — with the photos verified open on the new machine before the old one leaves.
- Phones and tablets — setup, transfers, storage full, accounts locked out, family photos rescued from a broken screen.
How a house call works
You call or text, describe what is happening in your own words, and get a two-hour arrival window. On arrival we confirm the price before touching anything: $95 for the first hour, which includes travel within about 15 minutes of Gray, then $65 an hour after that, billed in 15-minute increments. We tell you before it goes past the first hour.
No fix, no fee. If the honest answer after the first hour is that the machine is not repairable or not worth repairing, the visit costs nothing. We would rather say that than charge you for a diagnosis you can act on for free.
Parts are quoted separately at cost plus 15%, itemized on the invoice. If a part has to be ordered, the return visit is included — you pay for the part, not for the second drive.
What we will talk you out of
A $1,400 laptop for email and Facebook. A new computer when the old one needs a $90 SSD. A "maintenance plan" for a single home PC. And paying anyone who calls you claiming to be Microsoft, your bank, or your internet provider.
Remote first, when it fits
A lot of problems — email settings, accounts, software, "it says it is full" — are fixed in a $45 remote session lasting up to 45 minutes, with no travel and no waiting for an evening slot. If it turns out to need hands on it, we say so rather than billing remote time toward it.
Where we come to
Further out is fine too — travel beyond 15 minutes is $0.65 a mile, quoted before the visit.
