I am Matt Compton. I live in Gray with my family, and Gray Area Tech is me — not a franchise, not a dispatch center, not a call center that routes you to whoever is closest. When you call (207) 804-5719, the person who answers is the person who shows up.
Why it is one person on purpose
Small IT shops and big ones both fail in the same way: nobody remembers your setup. A one-person shop has an advantage there — the same person who fixed your email last spring is the one looking at your laptop in the fall, and remembers that the printer is on the old subnet.
It also means honest limits. I do not do phone screen replacements, platter-level data recovery, or warranty work, and I will say so on the phone and point you at someone who does instead of learning on your equipment.
How the pricing stays honest
The rate card is published on the home page and in the terms: $95 for the first hour, $65 after, $45 for a remote session. You hear the price before anything is touched, and if it is going to run past the first hour you hear that too. No fix, no fee. No subscriptions attached to a repair. No parts marked up quietly — hardware is cost plus 15%, itemized.
Hours, honestly stated
Calls and texts are answered every day, 8am to 8pm. On-site visits happen in the evenings and at weekends, because this is not yet a full-time job. That is why bookings get a two-hour arrival window: it is the honest way to promise time when someone else employs me during the day.
